The group stated it agrees to the peace plan proposals to some extent, but has not responded to several crucial requirements - including its disarmament and future role in Gaza.

The government official said on recently that he expected to reveal the freeing of captives "shortly"

Conflict Timeline

The negotiations, which will involve Middle Eastern officials conducting mediation with representatives from both the two sides separately, occur on the verge of the two-year mark of the military operation on southern Israel on the initial attack date, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 individuals were taken hostage.

The armed forces launched a campaign in Gaza in retaliation. Following the initial attack, 67,160 have been killed by defense force actions in Gaza, according to the area's local health authorities.

Peace Plan Details

The comprehensive proposal, which has been agreed upon by US President Donald Trump and Israeli officials, proposes an immediate end to fighting and the release of 48 detained individuals, only 20 individuals are considered surviving, in compensation of numerous of detained Gazans.

The plan stipulates that once both sides agree to the proposal "full aid will be immediately sent into the Gaza Strip"

It also declares that Hamas would have no involvement in governing Gaza, and it allows for an independent Palestinian nation.

Current Situation

On Friday, Hamas responded to the initiative in a declaration, in which the group agreed "to free all captured individuals, both living and dead, according to the exchange formula outlined in the American plan" - if the necessary circumstances for the swaps are fulfilled.

It did not specifically mention or endorse the detailed initiative but said it "reaffirms its commitment to hand over the administration of the conflict zone to a Palestinian body of independents, based on local agreement and regional endorsement"

The announcement made no mention of one of the key demands of the plan – that Hamas consent to its weapons surrender and to playing no further role in the administration of Gaza.

Global Perspectives

Local residents described Hamas' response to the negotiation initiative as unanticipated, after days of suggestions that the faction was preparing to reject or at least heavily condition its endorsement of Trump's peace plan proposal.

Instead, the militant group refrained from including its established limits in the public announcement, a action many interpret as a sign of outside forces.

Global and local representatives have welcomed the plan. The local administration, which controls parts of the Palestinian territories, has characterized the American initiatives as "sincere and determined"

The Persian nation - which has been one of the group's primary supporters for decades - has also currently expressed its support for Trump's Gaza peace plan.

Global media representatives have been prohibited by Israel from visiting the Palestinian territory without supervision since the start of the hostilities, making verifying claims from the conflicting groups difficult.
